Come with me, back to the 1980s--you know want to.
by FlyingHighNow ini don't know about ya'll, but i did not appreciate the 1980s enough.
i was too busy lamenting how different they were from the 1960s and 1970s to bask in and appreciate how wonderful they were.. this is 80s music, especially new wave music, and 80s fashion and culture appreciation thread.
what did you love about the 80s?

Elders, apostasy and disfellowshipping issue's - thoughts please
by FeelingFree inok so... when i was talking to my mil about why i no longer wanted to be a witness she kept trying to convience me that i needed to speak to the elders.
i said from the word go i didn't feel the need to as my mind was already made up and no one could change it.
i also said if the elders new all my reasons for leaving they would view me as an apostate and i would get disfellowshipped.

Separation of Powers
It is easy to blind one's self to the reality, as is the case with your IL's. Although you may express doubts and doubts in and of themselves are not disfellowshippable (is that a word?), there are, almost inevitably, members of the bodies of elders that will not be able to discern doubt from apostasy. So, be careful when expressing anything with them.
I heard of a case where a brother just lost all religious perspective. Issues in his life affected his faith in everything to the point where he simply did not believe anymore in anything. He told the elders he no longer believed. Some wanted him out. Others felt compassion for him, cause they knew of his situation. He wasn't a threat to anyone. He kept to himself. Didn't communicate with anyone really. Still, there was this almost vehement desire to see him ousted by a number of the body. Is agnosticism apostasy? I doubt it. The moral of the story.....fading is safer than speaking.

CO's visit ends with a bombshell!!!
by nowwhat? inat the end of his final talk he said of the gb: they are telling the higher ups , "start getting ready we're not going to be around much longer!
" and we expect the angels to release the four winds any day now!
" my first thought was why are you building a corporate country club then?!

in their younger years, they admired those who could afford to own a house.

But buying millions of dollars in property for the Lord's work isn't? The God I worship isn't short of cash mister, and just like in Solomon's time, he "doesn't dwell in human abodes."

Watchtower Dec 2014 page 4
by Mr Fool inwt dec-2014 page4: "a bulgarian woman named irana rigthly observed, -it is not posspible to be close to god if you don t know his name.
".
if so many know his name, why this debate "jehovah vs yahweh" then?.

Separation of Powers
Funny quote, what about those that abuse the name? I mean, I will stand there at attention in the hall when someone opens or closes the meeting with prayer and they repeat the name JEHOVAH as if it were a mannerism, like "uh" or "hmm" or, I don't know, "like."
If you know his name, doesn't he know it as well? Why repeat it 5000 times? If you meet the Queen, do you call her by her name? No, you say "Your Highness" or "Your Majesty" she knows who you are talking to and, guess what, so do you! God, if there is one, is not petty. If you choose to call him "frying pan" and you do it with reverance, then who's to say he doesn't accept that?

by Yondaime inso last night i was talking to my sister about how i admired president obama's speech to the u.n that happened earlier that day.. i then compared the extremism of isis to how much of a fanatic my jw bil is.. at the end of the statement , my mom walked in to the kitchen.
she was standing in the living room and she heard everything i said.. she called the elders that night to tell them what i said so they can counsel me.. i'm going to meet with them after the meeting on sunday!.

"My mom has a tendency to overexagerate. She does not listen to the context of what is said, just snippets." Leave it at that....all of us have a mother.
